We lie a lot.

This comes back a lot – we know people are basically not honest, that lying is taught to us by our parents from an early age. Robert Feldman’s latest study shows that even when we don’t have an agenda, we lie around 12 times per 10 minutes – and these are just the lies we are willing to admit to! Should we have an agenda, we will happily lie with a much greater frequency.

Being honest just isn’t in us!

The Pre Reports Your Location to Palm

It turns out that Palm wants your data – as much as possible! The Pre sends the following information home daily:

  • Location
  • Which apps you’ve used and for how long
  • App crash logs
  • Installed apps

Apparently Palm says you can turn it off, but they don’t tell you how. You OK it by agreeing to their privacy policy (so – who here has ever read a privacy policy / eula they’ve agreed to?).

More and more companies (Apple, Google, to name a few) feel they have ownership of the devices they sell you, and feel that collecting this kind of private data is fine.

Of course, some of the apps on the phone need this kind of data in order to work (eg apps that show things close to you in Google Maps) but does Palm need this data too?

Molecular condom vs AIDS

Utah scientists have developed a liquid that turns semi solid in the presence of semen, trapping the AIDS virus. If a woman uses the liquid before sex, sperm gets trapped in a gel like structure. By the time the gel melts into liquid, the AIDS virus has died. So it’s not a sure fire contraceptive, but good for the most virulent and dangerous sexual disease. Now if they can only get it to solidify for ALL sexually transmitted diseases…

This is where CCTV leads to!

Of course only in the jolly old UK:

The Children’s Secretary set out £400million plans to put 20,000 problem families under 24-hour CCTV super-vision in their own homes

They will be monitored to ensure that children attend school, go to bed on time and eat proper meals.

Private security guards will also be sent round to carry out home checks, while parents will be given help to combat drug and alcohol addiction.

The best bit? They’ve allready put 2000 families through this!

Interorbital Tube Sat

For $8000 you can launch your own satellite into low earth orbit at 310 km. It’ll stay up there for around 3 weeks untill it burns up in reentry. They come in kit form and you can stuff whatever you want in there as long as it weighs less than 0.75 kg and fits into the tube they send you. You can double, triple or quadruple the tubesat, allowing you to launch greater payloads. They will be launched on Interobital’s Neptune rocket, which carries 32 tubesats per time. They expect to launch 1 rocket per month from 2010 from the IOS Spaceport Tonga.

UCSniff updated

UCSniff can be placed on a laptop and put in a network where it will VLAN hop untill it finds the VoIP VLAN channel. It then throws out spoofed ARP packets like a man-in-the-middle attack and gets all voice and video traffic thrown to itself. Together with a plugin called VideoJak they can then insert video loops into the stream, meaning that whoever sees the camera output (the guard) will only see the loop and not what the webcam is seeing.
